The Calgary Stampede is all about letting loose and having fun! But it is very important to always remain safe and aware. By using Safe4Life’s four keys to personal safety, you can ensure that you and your family will be safe not only during the ten days of Stampede, but every day of the year.

  1. Be Aware – Notice what is going on around you, make sure you are making eye contact with people in your vicinity.  Keep your head up, and keep your wits about you.  Recognize risky behavior and situations, and stay clear or leave the vicinity.
  2. Have a Clear Bottom Line – Make the conscious decision about keeping yourself safe and protected before you leave your house. Make an agreement with yourself or your friend as to how much you will drink, where you will go, and with whom and when you will leave to come home.  Then keep your agreement!
  3. Make a Safety Plan – Give some thought to possible risky scenarios and play them out in your mind with the end result being your safety and well being. Visualize what you will say and what you will do to protect yourself.
  4. Have Confidence and Gain Skills – Take a self defense course, discuss safety and well being with friends and colleagues, talk about weird and creepy things that you notice in your immediate environment, Henry Ford said, “whether you think you can or you can’t, you’re right”. Believe in yourself and feel confident about your abilities.
